Among many other complex English grammar terms and elements, one is instrumental words or compounds.
Today I will talk about their meaning and usage in English language and grammar.
Instrumental Compound:
A compound which is mostly an adjective in which the first word expresses and tells about the action that is happening in the second element of the compound is called an instrumental compound.
Example:
Self-made
He is a self-made man.
In the above example, self-made is an example of instrumental compound as the word self expresses the meaning and action of made. This compound means made by self.
Example:
The candlelit room looked very romantic.
In the above sentence, candlelit is the instrumental compound which means lit by candle.
