Past tense means that it already happened.
He ran to the store.
ran is the past tense
if it was present tense it would be:
He run to the store.
You wouldn't see that type of writing much.
He will run to the store.
That would be future tense.
Most of the time, there would be a will in a future tense sentence.
Well a way to tell what is a present tense, is when you say it, it doesn't sound right to you.
Then the rest would be a past tense would sound better and doesn't have a will unless if it is a compound sentence.
