Great article, although with one caveat. You mention using "offence" to demonstrate linguistic elegance in UK-facing communications. But if one is a truly righteous and elegant linguist, and wished to demonstrate this to British individuals, they would NEVER compromise their correct spelling to pander to whatever delicate sensibilities that may exist within some daft, crumpet munching correspondent. Because I'm proud to be an American. Where at least "offense", doesn't have a C. And I won't forgive the Brits who tried, to force that C on me. And I'll gladly staaaaand UP - to any extra U's, and there ain't no E in "gray". Cause there ain't no doubt that I love this land, God bless the USAAAAAAA
