I'm curious....as an American, I typically use "catalog" for the noun and "catalogue" for the verb. It does not seem inconsistent to me to make a statement "I am cataloguing items for a catalog." If I were to use "catalog" for both, then you get the problematic "cataloging" which either sounds funny or violates the "gi" sounds like "ji" rule.
