The word aid is a verb that means “help.” We should note that aid may also be used as a noun in the same way that “help” can be used as both a noun and a verb.

Aide however can be used only as a noun and refers to a person, an assistant.

Example: The teacher’s aide was often asked to do clerical tasks, which took her away from her more important duty to aid her students.
